The Citizens’ Alliance (CA) has postponed its much-anticipated elective congress, originally scheduled for Saturday, December 28th 2024, to April 2025.

Modou Mboob, who is vying to succeed Dr. Ismaila Ceesay as the party leader, confirmed the development, though no official statement has been issued by the party.

“I wish to inform the general membership of CA that the National Executive of the party has decided to proceed with the postponement of the party’s elective congress until April 2025. A formal request for postponement was made to the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC), and the request was granted,” he said.

Mboob explained that the decision followed a democratic process within the party’s National Executive, where the majority determined that the party was not adequately prepared to hold the congress as initially planned.

“However, due to the fact that my team and I have the upper hand against the incumbent leadership and many unsubstantiated factors, our victory can only be delayed but cannot be denied. Despite this unfavourable decision which has greatly denied my team and me a clear victory due to the overwhelming support we were able to gather from almost all the regional structures and the youth wing executive, I still stand firm on my beliefs,” he said.

Mboob urged all party members to exercise patience and respect democratic principles, even in challenging circumstances.

“It’s our duty and responsibility to see to it that democratic processes are always respected, even if they appear to be unfavourable. It’s quite important to note that there were many instances within the party when decisions were made in our favour, yet such decisions were always acknowledged by the other side. Thus, this is the time to reciprocate and uphold those strong values.”

He further called on party members to remain steadfast in their efforts to hold the leadership accountable, emphasizing the importance of their cause.

Importantly, I want to implore all party members to not give up on the cause to hold the leadership to account, as we have started something very genuine and noble. Despite the stumbling blocks, giving up now should not be an option. We will continue fighting for a democratic change of leadership and restore the hope and confidence the party was built for,” he added.
