Chief of Defence Staff Retires, Major General Mamat O. Cham Assumes Role as New CDS

The Gambia Armed Forces announced that Lieutenant General Yakuba A. Drammeh, the Gambian Chief of Defence Staff, has retired and been succeeded by his deputy, Major General Mamat O. Cham.
The announcement from the Armed Forces indicates that Lieutenant General Yakuba A. Drammeh has made the decision to retire as per statutory regulations, having reached the age of 60 and with nearly four decades of dedicated service to his credit.
“The Chief of Defence Staff, Gambia Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Yakuba A. Drammeh, has decided to proceed on statutory retirement after reaching the age of 60 years. He has served the GAF for almost 40 years and will be replaced by his deputy, Major General Mamat O. Cham. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Defence will issue a Press Release on this development at the appropriate time. Thank you,” the Gambia Armed Forces said.
