Chairman Yankuba Darboe Unveils Eight Council Nominations
By Buba Gagigo
Yankuba Darboe, Chairman of the Brikama Area Council (BAC), has nominated eight people to represent different interest groups and communities on the council. This is in accordance with the Local Government Act, which requires that the council be made up of representatives from a variety of sectors. Darboe is still waiting for the chiefs to send in their representative.
Kerr Fatou reported on Wednesday that Chairman Darboe has selected Binta Senghore, also known as Binzy, as the Youth Representative at the Brikama Area Council (BAC). The selection comes amid a heated disagreement between the chairman and the West Coast Region’s Regional Youth committee.
The chairman has announced the full list of nominees, except for the chief’s representative, who has not yet submitted their nominee. Below is the list of nominees and the communities they will be representing on the council:
Nominee | Community/Group |
Mr. Omar B. Darboe | Farmers’ rep |
Ms. Sarjo Sanneh | Gardeners and Market Women’s rep |
Mr. Sheriffo Baiyo Sonko | Transport rep |
Mr. Alhagie Bah | Animal Husbandry or Cattle Herders rep |
Mr. Bubacar Sidiq Jammeh | Business rep |
Miss Binta Senghore | Youth rep |
Mrs. Ramou Sabally | Women’s rep |
Ms Ndey Saine | Differently abled rep |
Chairman Yankuba Darboe revealed that they are currently in the final stages of the process, with the only remaining step being the chiefs sending in their representative. Once this is done, they will proceed to submit the aforementioned list of nominees to the Ministry of Lands, Regional Governments, and Religious Affairs for confirmation.
