Business Coaches Meet To Standardize Coaching Practice In Gambia

About 50 professional business coaches met to standardize the practice of business coaching in The Gambia by forming an association.

The meeting was held at Mansakonko Area Council conference hall situated in Jarra Soma on 5th of June 2021.

Speaking at the convergence, the chairlady of the task force Emilia Richards expressed gratitude for the good turnout of the business coaches from all the regions. She said the objective of the convergence is meant to standardize the business coaching practice in the Gambia.

 “We want to capacitate the business coaches and certify them so that they can deliver as expected of them,” she remarked.

 She informed that the initiative is welcomed by key stakeholders in the entrepreneurship ecosystem; and called on the public and the private sectors to support the initiative by working with the association as well as benefit from its integrated business services such as business advisory, coaching and mentoring.

The Chairman of the interim committee, Saidibou Jammeh challenged the business coaches to champion the Association. He said one must be ready to serve in order to make a meaningful impact in life.  Saidibou emphasized the importance of business coaching and advisory particularly for budding entrepreneurs in the country. Then said coaches must be prepared and equipped with the necessary tools and resources to deliver.

 “We must be willing to give so much,” Jammeh urged.

A representative of GIZ, Mariama Drammeh stated the need for the existence of such associations in the country. He emphasized the importance of building the capacity of the business coaches in conformity with international standards in order to improve the business capacity and the economic development of the country.

A renowned gender activist and the vice chair lady of the interim committee, Binta Jammeh Sidebeh called on the coaches to share their time and experience to support businesses in the country.

“We must work as a team and share our experiences,” she said.

Madam Sidebeh stressed the importance of sustainability in keeping the association function effectively and efficiently; before thanking members of the taskforce for their hard work and commitment.

The meeting ended with the selection of regional reps and recommendations from the participants on the way forward of the practice in the country
