The National Assembly Member for Banjul South, Honourable Touma Njai has clashed with Vice President Dr. Isatou Touray over the failed Constitution Amendment Bill 2021.
The tension erupted between the two shortly after the National Assembly failed to meet the threshold to vote on the second reading of the Constitution Amendment Bill 2021.
Hon. Touma Njai accused the Vice President of not supporting the Constitution Amendment Bill 2021 that she (Touma Njai) brought before the National Assembly for enactment.
“You are not telling the truth, who told you that I am not in support of the Bill (Constitution Amendment Bill 2021). You are trying to politicise everything and this Bill should not be politicised,” the furious VP Touray reacted to Touma Njai’s allegation.
The Vice President said Minister Fatou Kinteh came to the National Assembly in support of the Constitution Amendment Bill.
“She (Touma Njai) is lying and not telling the truth,” VP Touray told women activists who were counselling her.
Honourable Halifa Sallah, National Assembly Member for Serekunda then took the VP away for counselling.
The incident took place on Monday (today) at the National Assembly Complex in Banjul.
