Breaking News: Police Approves Permit for CoPG Protest Next Thursday

The Gambia Police Force has approved a permit for the Coalition of Progressive Gambians (CoPG) to hold a protest next Thursday over the delay in passing the 2020 CRC draft constitution.

“I acknowledge receipt of your letter dated 29th August 2024 addressed to the Office of the Inspector General of Police in relation to the above subject matter. Be informed that permission has been granted to you to go ahead with your peaceful protest slated for 7th November 2024 commencing from 11:00hrs to 13:00hrs from Bond Road Junction (Opposite Jah Oil) to the first gate of the National Assembly (Opposite the Christian Cemetery), Banjul,” the police said.

The permit, however, includes several conditions:

A) That the peaceful protest is confined to the time scheduled given in this approved permit.

B) That the peaceful protest starts from Bond Road junction to the first gate of the National Assembly.C) That only a two-man delegation is permitted to deliver the petition to the representatives of the National Assembly and the Ministry of Justice, respectively, at the National Assembly grounds.

D) That the press briefing be held at the front gate of the National Assembly building, opposite the Christian Cemetery.

E) That the peaceful protest is confined within the limits of the law.F) That no derogatory words or remarks should be addressed to any person that will eventually result in the breach of the peace.

“Failure to comply with these conditions will result in the revocation of this permit and/or criminal prosecution. By a copy of this permit. CP Banjul is requested to provide security for the protest, and you are advised to liaise with her on 3201678 for proper arrangements,” they concluded.
