The Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC) has expelled its Party Public Relations Officer, Abdoulie Jallow, for withdrawing as the GDC candidate in the North Bank Region during the Mayor and Chairperson’s election. The GDC said that Jallow’s withdrawal was “in violation of the party’s constitution and code of conduct.”
“The Central Executive Committee of The Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC), has noticed with regret surrounding the withdrawal of your candidature in the Chairperson Election for Kerewan Area Council in the May 20th Election, without consultation of the party’s local structure, Central Committee and the leadership,” the party said.
GDC said it considers his action to be of utmost disrespect to their party Leadership and structures on the ground.
“Your action is not in line with the aims and objectives of the party, as article 7 (7.3) (i) of the constitution clearly states that, “every eligible member must strive to promote the values, aims and objective of the party”.
“Your recent action has failed the party in this regard, and we were left with no choice for your replacement to contest for the Kerewan Area Council seat. This is considered to be a betrayal of trust and confidence on your part.
As a result of the above, the Central Executive Committee and its leadership are left with no other option but to finally expel you from the party with immediate effect. We thank you and recognize all your efforts and wish you all the best in your future endeavors,” they concluded.
Many GDC supporters alleged that Abdoulie Jallow’s withdrawal a few days to the mayors and chairpersons’ election was due to inducements he received from the National People’s Party (NPP).
