The Basse Area Council has made public the apprehension of one of its staff, Muhammed Susso, who stands accused of engaging in unauthorized revenue collection from communities without adhering to proper procedures.
“Barely less than two hours after our initial post on the suspected fraud activity, we can confirm that the suspect, Muhammed Susso has now been arrested by the Police and is currently under their custody, helping them in their investigations. While the Council cannot make any further comments on this issue for now, we want to remind our taxpayers and residents to be vigilant and desist from transacting with anyone claiming to be collecting revenue on behalf of the Council without valid certification,” Basse Area Council said.
According to the Council, Muhammed had been suspended indefinitely and was under investigation after initial suspicions arose regarding his unauthorized revenue collection activities.
“While still under suspension and investigation, Mr Susso persisted in this act until our attention was drawn to it again. He was reported to the Police in Basse on Thursday, April 4, 2024, after which he absconded,” they said.
The Council stated that the suspect has now been arrested and is cooperating with the police in their ongoing investigation.
