Banjul Police Probe Death of 20-Year-Old After Truck Incident; Suspect Detained

The Banjul police, in collaboration with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), are investigating the suspected murder of a 20-year-old man from Talinding. The incident reportedly followed a confrontation with a truck driver in Banjul on November 18, 2024, the Gambia Police Force has confirmed.
According to the police, the suspect voluntarily surrendered to the Banjul Terminal Police Station. He claimed that he assaulted the victim after catching him allegedly attempting to break into his truck, which contained D17,000. During the altercation, the victim lost consciousness and was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

On 19th November, the Crime Scene and forensic experts visited the scene to reconstruct the incident. Initial observations revealed a bruise with bloodstains on the back of the deceased’s head,” the police reported.
The suspect has since been charged with murder and remains in custody. Meanwhile, the deceased’s body has been transferred to the EFSTH Hospital, awaiting a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
