Bakawsu Denies Being Arrested

Imam Bakawsu Fofana, a controversial preacher based in Sukuta , who accused his fellow preacher Musa Saidy in Tujereng of insulting Marabouts and threatened to attack him, has denied claims of being arrested by police.
“I went there myself to greet them but I was not arrested. I sent them a message. That’s why I went there to greet them. People who saw me there are the ones who spread the news that I was arrested,” he told Kerr Fatou in a call interview.
Meanwhile, his fellow Preacher Musa Saidy of Tujereng whom he (Bakawsu) accused of insulting Marabouts [a section of religious leaders], was arrested and released on bail last week, following a bitter exchange between the two.
Then, the Government made a statement expressing concern over threats of violence proffered by the Imams [Ba-Kawsu Fofana and Musa Boto Saidy].
The statement added that President Adama Barrow defends the sanctity of human life and would not stand by and allow people to take advantage of democracy to “promote extremist violence” in the society.
The statement also urged the persons concerned to refrain from ‘mudslinging’ and instead resort to settle their case, be it civil or criminal at a court of law.
Saidy’s alleged attacks against the marabout community had prompted the swift reaction of Imam Ba-kawsu Fofona, who threatened to kill him if he did not stop it.
