AU Commission Appeals For Constructive Dialogue In Eswatini Protests

African Union Commission Chairperson appealed to stakeholders in Eswatini to engage in constructive dialogue for amicable resolution to the pro-democracy protests in the Kingdom.

“The Chairperson appeals to all national stakeholders to display leadership and engage in constructive dialogue towards the amicable resolution of the issues in the national interest of peace and stability of Eswatini,” Moussa Faki Mahamat said in a statement on Thursday.

He condemned in the strongest terms the incidents of violence that have led to the loss of lives, looting and destruction of public and private property.

Faki Mahamat called for immediate steps to protect the lives and property of citizens in the Kingdom and urged the leadership and all stakeholders to desist from further acts of violence that could intensify the situation.

Pro-democracy protests which began in the Kingdom of ESwatini formerly Swaziland on 20th June have reportedly claimed many lives with 8 deaths on Wednesday alone due to reported clashes between the protesters and the security, according to media reports.
