Warrant Officer Class 2 Lamin Colley who admitted “accidentally” killing Sgt Fafa Nyang has been dismissed from the army.
A highly placed source has informed Kerr Fatou that the former army medic implicated in the November 11 killings of soldiers has been dismissed from the military.
The spokesperson of the Gambia National Army Major Lamin Sanyang has confirmed to Kerr Fatou on Wednesday that Lamin Colley, a former witness before the Truth Commission who confessed to ending the life of Sgt. Fafa Nyang has been dismissed from the military.
At the time of speaking to Kerr Fatou Major Sanyang could not reveal information on why Colley is dismissed. It is also unclear if his dismissal may have to do with his testimony before the Truth Commission.
Colley appeared before the Commission barely a month ago to give testimony in relation to November 11, 1994 killing of soldiers.
On November 11, close to two dozen soldiers were executed for reportedly planning a coup against the military rulers who took over power under the leadership of Yahya Jammeh.
Several witnesses before the Commission said Colley killed Nyang deliberately. However, during his testimony Colley who is an army medic said he was only trying to help when his AK47 fired a shot accidentally shattering Nyang’s head. The bullet, according to Colley, went into his left jaw.
Colley’s claims were however rubbished by several witnesses who came after him. They said he deliberately shot Nyang as he ran for his life.
