The All People’s Party (APP) has formally endorsed the presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Organisation for Independence and Socialism (PDOIS) Hon. Halifa Sallah.
While speaking to the press Dr. Ebrima Bia Biran Jagne leader of APP said Halifa Sallah’s consistency in the political arena led to their endorsement of him.
“Without any doubt, Halifa Sallah has kept a track record that is not comparable to any Gambian involved in politics. He has been consistent in what PDOIS stands for. A clear message is that, if PDOIS comes to power, it will eradicate poverty, ignorance and the doll drums of stagnation. It is APP’s pleasure and a privilege to share a common platform with PDOIS. We are gathered here today for the APP to declare total support to the PDOIS candidate, Hon. Halifa Sallah. This is done in a spirit of mutual advantage. The two parties have seen our uniqueness, this is a landmark history in The Gambia where intellectuals, people who have a track record of being selfless in their work seek to bring this country out of poverty. There is no question in my mind, or any Gambia to question the ability of Halifa Sallah to rule this country when we give him the chance,” he said.
Meanwhile, Sedia Jatta, the chairperson of the PDOIS described APP’s endorsement of their candidate as a fundamental commitment to eradicate poverty, ignorance and injustice.
“This is a very important political occasion. The creation of this coalition is characterised by one fundamental thing. It is not characterised by the desire to have positions or occupy positions. But it is characterised by the fundamental commitment to the transformation of our society to free it once and for all from poverty, from ignorance and injustice. The door is open to any individual or organisation who is equally committed to that particular transformation. This is the fundamental objective of this coalition,” he said.
The APP made the formal announcement of endorsing the PDOIS presidential candidate in the early hours of Thursday at a joint press conference organised by the two parties.
The PDOIS party is currently embarking on a nationwide tour as part of its presidential campaign. The tour begins on November 9 and it would run-up to December 2, 2021.
