The Yuna Village Development Committee (VDC) has formally requested that both the Governor of the West Coast Region and the Chief of Old Yundum appoint Amadou Bah, the eldest son of the late Alkalo, as his successor.
In a letter dated June 11, 2024, the Ministry of Lands, Regional Governments, and Religious Affairs designated Amadou Bah as the new Alkalo. However, a prior letter from the Governor’s office, dated May 31, 2024, named Mrs. Binta Bah as the Alkalo for the same village. Both Amadou and Binta Bah are members of the same family.
The Yuna VDC expressed their support for Amadou Bah in a letter addressed to the Chief of Old Yundum. “I write to your esteem office to inform you that after the demise of the Yuna village Alkalo, Alh. Juldeh Bah, the villagers deem it necessary to nominate his eldest living son, Amadou Bah (age 59 years), as his successor. The villagers of Yuna in their different categories (men, women, and youths), filled out the accompanying nomination form to express their choice. This form serves as evidence that Mr. Amadou Bah is the villagers’ choice to be the Alkalo. Therefore, as VDC, it is of great pleasure to present to you the will of the people of Yuna,”
In a separate communication to the Governor of the West Coast Region, the VDC reiterated their support for Amadou Bah.
“I am please to submit the proposal of the stakeholders and others in Youna Village for the position of an Alkalo after making an investigation, I have found that the person nominated for the Alkaloship is in line with our tradition and cultural heritage. The late Alkalo Pa Juldeh Bah left some sons and daughters, the nominated person among them is Amadou Bah, the eldest son of Pa Juldeh Bah, and according to sources from the elder’s council, he is honest and dedicated to national development. Sir, based on the council of elders, VDC chairman, and mosque committee members’ recommendations, I therefore endorsed the proposal and, with due respect, I submitted it to your good office for approval,” the VDC chairman said.
