As part of its commitment to corporate social responsibility and women’s empowerment, Yonna Group commemorated International Women’s Day with a donation of 60,000 dalasis to the Lady Councillors of the Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC). The contribution forms part of a wider effort to support women and vulnerable groups throughout the municipality.

The day’s events began with a visit to the Juvenile Prison, where Yonna Group and the councillors provided essential food supplies and cleaning detergents to young detainees. The delegation then proceeded to Kanifing General Hospital, distributing hygiene essentials to women, emphasizing the importance of health and well-being.

“Our mission is to uplift and support women in all sectors of society,” a Yonna Group spokesperson stated. “This International Women’s Day, we sought to extend a helping hand to those in need and reaffirm our commitment to empowering communities.”

Concluding the celebrations, the KMC Lady Councillors announced plans to allocate part of the donation toward providing free Iftar meals at the Westfield Monument, with a special focus on supporting women during the holy month of Ramadan.

The initiative underscores the expanding role of corporate entities in fostering gender equality and community welfare in The Gambia, demonstrating the power of private-sector involvement in meaningful social change.
