Yankuba Touray’s Appeal Case Slated For Ruling In December

The ruling on the former Junta member, Yankuba Touray’s Appeal case before the Court of Appeal of the Gambia against the High Court’s decision is slated for 13th December 2022.

The case was yesterday adjourned to today for the adoption of the brief of arguments filed by both sides before the Court.

While moving his brief of arguments for adoption, Counsel for the appellant (Yankuba Touray), A. Sissoho, urged the court to set aside the High Court’s judgement against his client, discharge and acquitted him.

Also moving his brief of argument for the adoption, Counsel for the Respondent (The State), Senior State Counsel, M.B. Sowe, told the court that the High Court’s judgement was based on sound legal principles and supported by evidence; and urged the Court to dismiss the application filed by Yankuba Touray.

Following the submission of both the appellant and the respondent, President of the Court of Appeal of the Gambia, Justice Na Ceesay Sallah- Wadda, adopted their briefs and scheduled the ruling on the case on 13th December 2022.

Meanwhile, on 14th July 2021, the High Court of the Gambia found Yankuba Touray guilty of the murder of former Finance Minister, Ousman Koro Ceesay and sentenced him to death by hanging.

On Monday 6th of June 2022, Yankuba Touray appeared in the Court of Appeal contesting the High Court’s decision.
