Yankuba Darboe, the United Democratic Party’s Candidate for Brikama Area Council Chairperson in the upcoming local government elections said he is more competent than his opponent, Seedy Ceesay, of the ruling National People’s Party.

“We are a lot more competent than Seedy Ceesay and he knows that by all accounts. If you check our credentials you cannot say that Yanks at any level is less competent than Seedy. I was in the UK with Seedy and we worked in the UK many times. He was a Security Guard and I am a lawyer in the UK and when he came to The Gambia, he opened a security Company, I work in a law firm here. I represented his Ex-Wife in the UK. Seedy will not stand on any platform and say that I am not competent,” he said.

Reacting to a widely circulated audio of Dr. Amadou Scattred Janneh, in which he said that Yankuba Darboe is not competent to run the Brikama Area Council, the candidate took exception to it and pointed out that Dr. Janneh offered him his support as well.

“Funny enough on the 23rd of March Scattred wrote to me saying that his campaign Contribution is on it is way to my campaign and that he is in support of us but behind the scene, this Audio also drop seven days later. The Audio is talking about my incompetence which was a bit of a surprise but in politics, we have to expect those things” He said.

Yanks went on to say that it is not a surprise that Scattred shares the same opinion with NPP when it comes to issues of the opposition’s competence.

“Some People will also come before the elections. We will hear all kinds of things. The Camp Scattred joined (NPP), to those people, we are not competent to even stand at all. So if he (Scattred) joins those people, it is not a surprise that he shares their opinions about us,” Yanks Concludes

Yankuba Darboe made these remarks in an interview with Kerr Fatou’s weekly public affairs program, The Grand Bantaba.
