The National Assembly Member for Foni Bintang, Bakary K. Badjie, says they will take appropriate steps and respond to the death of Yankuba Jarju, a Gambian youth, killed on the outskirts of a village in the Senegalese region of Cassamance early Sunday morning. Hon. Badjie stressed that they are not going to negotiate with anybody in their response.

“One Thing for certain about me is, am not afraid of the government. I just need to tell them the reality. You told people that you are oppressed and now that you are in power, you are oppressing others. It is unacceptable and we are not going to accept it. We are not going to tolerate it, and we are not going to negotiate with anybody. The steps that we want to take, we don’t care what people think of them. We are not going to reveal them now,” he told Kerr Fatou on Monday.

Speaking to Kerr Fatou on Sunday, the Assistant PRO for the Gambia Police Force, Cadet Assistant Superintendent Muhammed Y. Darboe, mentioned that the initial information they gathered in the tragic death of Yankuba Jarju, revealed that he was shot and killed while fetching firewood in a forest, on the outskirts of a village in the Senegalese region of Cassamance early Sunday morning.

Yankuba Jarju, the deceased, was a native of Gifanga village, in Foni. He was allegedly shot and killed with a drone whose operator is still not clear as we go to press since both the Senegalese army and the Senegalese contingent of ECOMIG operates in the area.
