His Excellency, Vice President, Badara Alieu Joof Monday received a three-member delegation from the Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD).
The delegation consisted of Ms. Dana Al-misnad, Project Development Researcher and Desk Officer for Gambia; Ms. Aisha Al-Obaidan, Strategy planner; and Waleid Asad Ismail, Development Finance Director and Adviser of the QFFD, who headed the team.
Speaking at the meeting, His Excellency Badara A. Joof said the Qatar Fund for Development is a key partner to the Gambia and has supported the country in many ways.
The VP used the moment to encourage the mission to consider further support for the University of Applied Science, Engineering and Technology (USET).
Mr. Ismail said the Gambia is one of the focus countries that Qatar is interested in supporting.
He said they are in the country to facilitate the development of a conceptual framework for a flagship programme around health and education, which would be anchored by the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA).
The adviser of the QFFD took the opportunity to inform His Excellency Vice President Joof that Qatar is the host of the 2022 World Cup.
The Monday engagement was a follow-up to a pre-COVID fact-finding mission by a 13 men-team in September 2019, which principally aimed at developing a strategic country profile for possible interventions by the QFFD in the areas of education, health, social welfare and economic development.
