His Excellency, Vice President, Badara A. Joof on Tuesday received board members of the National Nutrition Agency (NaNA) at the State House in Banjul, ahead of the launch of the ‘Nafa’ programme next month.
Speaking after the meeting, the NaNA board chairperson, Musa Mbenga, affirmed that they visited the Vice President to inform him about the project management team’s proposal to launch the “Nafa” programme on 26th November 2022 in the Upper River Region.
“The courtesy call was therefore to kindly request for Vice President Joof to officially launch this programme on behalf of the Government of The Gambia,” he added.
Mr. Mbenga explained that the Nafa programme is acomponent of The Gambia government and World Bank-funded US$31 million project called ‘The Gambia Social Safety Net Project’, being implemented by the agency and partners.
He continued that Nafa entails providing cash transfers to the poorest households in the 20 poorest districts of The Gambia.
The finalisation of the Nutrition Bill and its accompanying documents for submission to the cabinet was also discussed with His Excellency Joof, the board chairperson added.
“The Board informed H.E. Badara Joof of the progress with the Bill and the cabinet paper set to be presented to cabinet before the end of December 2022,” Mbenga said.
The Nutrition Nutrition Agency is under the Office of the Vice President.
Board Chairperson Mbenga was accompanied to the State House by Mrs. Juka Jabang; Dr Amat Bah, NaNA Executive Director; Mr Balla Joof; and Mr. Bakary Jallow, Senior Planning Officer.
