“Thank you my brother, President Xi Jinping”, says President Barrow as he receives the Chinese Foreign Minister
State House, Saturday 5th January – His Excellency, President Adama Barrow has expressed immense gratitude to the President and government of the People’s Republic of China for staunchly supporting his administration since coming to power.
“I will seize this opportunity to thank you and thank my brother, the President of China for the support you have given me in my new administration since we came to power two years ago,” President Barrow said.
The President made these remarks on Saturday afternoon at the State House in Banjul while receiving the Foreign Minister and State Councilor of China, His Excellency Wang Yi – the highest ranking Chinese official to ever visit The Gambia.
President Barrow said he was confident of the commitment of the Chinese government to the brotherly ties that bind the two countries, adding that being received twice in eight months by President Xi serves a testament.
“I think this is the first time a foreign minister of China is visiting The Gambia. I think this has shown the commitment China has put into this relationship,” the President said, stating that the Chinese Ambassador was the first to visit him after he was declared winner in the 2016 elections.
Expressing his government’s unalloyed commitment to upholding and defending the “One China Policy”, he encouraged President Xi and his government to continue to support his government’s development aspirations.
Foreign Minister Wang Yi conveyed warm greetings and best wishes from President Xi Jinping, reiterating that China would continue to stand the Barrow government in delivering its development agenda in The Gambia.
