The University of The Gambia History Society (UTG-HS) met its adviser, Dr. Baba Galleh Jallow,an author and former TRRC executive secretary.
The History Society President Edrisa Dumbuya chaired the meeting and said it was to meet their adviser and map out an action plan with his guidance.
Dr Baba Galleh Jallow expressed his willingness to serve as adviser to the History society and asked the executive about the society’s action plan; and the Society President gave him a synopsis of their plan.
In addition to the society’s plan disclosed by President Dumbuya, Dr. Jallow suggested other activities the society could implement.
The activities the author and former TRRC executive secretary suggested include seminar; field trips; fundraising; publishing weekly newsletter; lectures, among others.
Omar H.S. Drammeh, Vice President, believed with the influence of Dr. Jallow on the activities of the UTG-History Society, a lot would be achieved.
He encouraged the members of the society to be steadfast and ready to sacrifice for the betterment of the History Society, highlighting some importance of history as a “unique discipline of specialisation”.
Vice Drammeh commended Dr Jallow who is a historian for his willingness and volunteerism to serve the UTG-HS as its adviser.
An executive member, Berray Sowe suggested that holding a talk show on local media on a book-writing project is part of important events that the society should undertake.
Dr. Jallow welcomed the idea of having a good relationship with the media saying, “it will expose the society and its activities widely”.
However, the Society’s adviser who is an author said “it might not be easy” to write a book as it requires much time, resources and professional academic support.
“Do not get into things that you cannot do. Be precise with what you do. Then surely, you will gradually achieve your goals, “Dr. Jallow advised the society.
The meeting with Dr. Jallow on the University of the Gambia Brikama campus was with President Edrisa Dumbuya, Vice President Omar S.H. Drammeh, Secretary General Bakary Dibba, Berray Sowe, Momodou Musa Cham, and Binta N.Y. Sanneh happened on 19th July 2022.
