An unnamed military man has accidentally shot his colleague at a military guard post in former president Yahya Jammeh’s home village of Kanilai.
The army spokesperson Major Laming Sanyang told Kerr Fatou that the victim, Lance Corporal Samba Bah, has sustained bullet injury and a fracture on his thigh.
Bah was immediately brought to the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital where he is believed to be responding to treatment.
“He did not sustain any life-threatening injury,” Sanyang told Kerr Fatou over the phone.
The “accidental discharge”, as it is call in the military, happened yesterday. Sanyang said the army chief Masanneh Kinteh has already authorized the Kanilai commanding officer, Lt. Colonel Ebrima Krubally, to constitute a board of inquiry to look into the incident.
Sanyang said depending on the findings of the board established, the unnamed soldier responsible could face a disciplinary measure.
The discharge was a single shot and only Bah was said to have been injured.
