The United Democratic Party (UDP) leader Lawyer Ousainu ANM Darboe has expressed his party’s intention to give subvention to Madrasas, if elected as president next month.

“People believe in these Madrasa learning. We give them our children for them to teach and give them the best of attitudes, to teach them about the world and hereafter, to make it easy for them. However, I know the children that are learning in this Madrasas all depend on their teachers. Their teachers are responsible for their food, heath and even sometimes their clothes that they wear. However, who pays these teachers? Unless, the charity that they receive from people. It’s part of what we (UDP) are thinking, to give subvention to these Madrasas just like what the government is doing to English schools. Government should add that in their budget, so that all schools can be equalled in the eyes of the government,” Darboe told his supporters in Niani Bakadaji on Monday.

The United Democratic Party (UDP) leader Lawyer Ousainu Darboe made these comments in Niani Bakadaji on Monday in the Upper River Region in the ongoing presidential election campaign.

Lawyer Ousainu Darboe as the UDP candidate would on December 4 lock horns with the incumbent Adama Barrow of the National People’s Party; Halifa Sallah of the People’s Democratic Organisation for Independence and Socialism; Mama Kandeh of the Gambia Democratic Congress; Abdoulie Ebrima Jammeh of the National Unity Party; and Essa Mbye Faal, the Independent Candidate; President.
