The United Democratic Party (UDP) Lawyer, Borry S. Touray is optimistic of victory as he, on behalf of the party, filed a petition against the December 4 Presidential election results.
“We are contesting the results. We have proof that the election was rigged. That is why we came here to file a lawsuit against it. We have hopes that we will win the case. We have filed the petition for the nullification of the results,” Mr. Touray said.
The UDP rejected the election results on December 5, hours before the official announcement by the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC); and promised to investigate the matter and challenge the results.
The National People’s Party (NPP) Presidential candidate President Adama Barrow, swept the polls with 53% of the votes while the United Democratic Party (UDP) Presidential candidate ANM Ousainu Darboe got 25% of the votes.
The United Democratic Party (UDP) on Tuesday afternoon officially challenged the December 4 presidential election results at the Supreme Court of the Gambia.
