Hon. Abdou Sowe, the National Assembly Member (NAM) representing Kombo East Constituency on behalf of the Opposition United Democratic Party (UDP), has dismissed rumours suggesting his departure from the party in favour of the ruling National People’s Party (NPP).
During a discussion with Mayor Talib Ahmed Bensouda of the Kanifing Municipal Council, Hon. Sowe clarified, “I intentionally did not make any declaration indicating that I am joining another party. I have my projects, and the genesis of these projects dates back to our first State of the Nation Address (SONA) in 2022. The President’s Address Statement urged National Assembly Members to serve as Ambassadors to attract investments, businesses, and prosperity to the country.”
Elaborating on his commitment to contributing to the country’s development, Hon. Sowe emphasized that his engagement with President Barrow was centred around his projects.
“I sought to achieve my goals through the meeting with President Barrow. I obtained the necessary support without delay. However, the interpretation and direction they took regarding the matter are within their purview,” said Hon. Sowe.
Highlighting his extensive background as a banker, Hon. Sowe asserted, “I cannot be a liability. I am a performance-driven individual. I don’t sit back and rely on baseless discussions. My aim is to contribute to my country, and my interactions with the President are driven by a commitment to national development, not mere political affiliations.”
In addressing Mayor Bensouda, Hon. Sowe affirmed, “When I meet the President, I am engaging with the leader of the nation, not merely a politician. My dedication is to the welfare and progress of my country.”
