The United Democratic Party (UDP) has appealed to the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) after its replacement candidate for Chamen ward, Musa Cham, was rejected by the IEC returning Officer in CRR, Mr. Taal. Musa Cham was supposed to replace Yahya G. Sowe, who withdrew from the local government elections.

The UDP campaign manager, Momodou Sabally, and the National Youth President, Haji Suwaneh, led the delegation that presented Musa Cham to the IEC. Sabally wrote on his Facebook page on Wednesday that Mr. Taal’s decision was “nefarious and malicious” and based on his own convenience.

“And then our replacement candidate for Nianija Ward has just submitted his appeal against the nefarious and malicious decision of the IEC Officer at CRR, Mr. Taal.

Mr. Taal told our candidate, Musa Cham, that he rejected his application for nomination based on what is convenient for him (Mr. Taal),” Sabally wrote on his Facebook page on Wednesday.
