The Deputy Chairman of Mansakonko Area Council has confirmed to this medium that two children from Jarra Pakaliba have drowned last Thursday in Sofaniama Bolong.

“Last Thursday, February 2, 2023, at around 11 am, two children from Jarra Pakaliba went to the riverside. One of them, Pabi Conteh was standing on the riverbank, unbeknownst to him, the spot he was standing on was not strong enough. The clay gave way beneath him, and he fell into the river. Unfortunately, the place he fell into is very deep.

“He called out to his friend, Sainey Ceesay, to help him. Sainey reached out to help and also fell into the river after the two locked hands. They shouted for help from other kids who were also there but couldn’t rescue them because they were afraid to jump in or reach out to them. They went home to inform people, but it was too late because the incident happened around 11 am, but they gave the information around 5 pm.  The fishermen have been looking for them since Thursday and were able to find the dead bodies today, Saturday, February 4, 2023.” Almamo AK Ceesay, the Deputy Chairman of Mansakonko Area Council, said.

Both deceased boys are said to be natives of Jarra Pakaliba and both are below the age of 12 years
