Trust Bank has been recognized as the Best Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Bank at the inaugural West Africa Bankers’ Association (WABA) Annual Bankers’ Awards, held at the Freetown International Conference Centre in Sierra Leone. The prestigious accolade was received by Njilan Senghore, Managing Director of Trust Bank, during the WABA Secretariat Awards Night.
The award celebrates Trust Bank’s outstanding dedication to corporate social responsibility, particularly its significant contributions to healthcare development in The Gambia. The bank has consistently supported health institutions nationwide, reinforcing its commitment to societal well-being.
Over the years, Trust Bank has extended financial and material support to various healthcare facilities, including Tanka-Tanka Mental Health Hospital, Bundung Maternal and Child Health Hospital, Kanifing General Hospital, and Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital. The bank’s impact also reaches provincial hospitals such as Essau District Hospital, Farafenni General Hospital, Basse District Hospital, Bansang General Hospital, and Soma District Hospital, among others.
Expressing her gratitude during the ceremony, Njilan Senghore highlighted the significance of the award, noting that it reaffirms Trust Bank’s unwavering commitment to social responsibility.
“We are very excited to have received this award as the best bank in CSR. This recognition reflects the significant contributions our bank has made toward transforming society and demonstrates our vision to be the leading bank in The Gambia. Through its CSR policy, Trust Bank has focused on enhancing societal well-being by prioritizing people at the core of its mission,” she stated.
The West Africa Bankers’ Association (WABA) is a regional body that brings together commercial and development banks, credit institutions, and professional banking organizations across West Africa. It serves as a key representative of the banking and financial sector to stakeholders, including ECOWAS, Central Banks, consular chambers, professional bodies, and international institutions.
Established on July 3, 1997, Trust Bank was founded to take over the operations of Meridien Biao Bank Gambia, officially commencing business on October 1, 1997. The bank provides commercial, corporate, and international banking services with a diversified ownership structure. In November 2002, Trust Bank made history as the first Gambian company to achieve a cross-border listing on the Ghana Stock Exchange. Over the past 14 years, the bank has earned numerous local and international accolades in recognition of its excellence in banking and corporate social responsibility.
