The Management of Trust Bank on Wednesday, January 18 2023 presented items worth a little over three hundred thousand dalasis to the Dialysis Unit of the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital.

This donation is a continuation of the bank’s annual corporate social responsibility contribution to healthcare facilities across the country.

Speaking at the presentation, the Deputy Managing Director of Trust Bank, Omar Mboob, said the donation encapsulates the fantastic role that the dialysis unit plays in the lives of patients living with renal failure.

“Imagine living with a medical condition in which your kidneys are not working well enough to keep you alive with no guarantees about when you will get the help you need, or being too scared to tell your family, friends, and your employers about what’s happening because you are worried about how they might react. But this is exactly what the patients of this unit are facing now, and their treatment options are limited to dialysis treatments or kidney transplants.

dialysis treatment is just a life-sustaining treatment if I may call it and I think we as a nation should start to focus our energies on creating awareness and encouraging the practice of organ donation. We must also come together to ensure that the most appropriate infrastructure is in place to support organ donation and transplantation,” he said

He added that Getting regular dialysis treatments, usually three times a week for four hours at a time will only help keep the patients alive, but a transplant would offer them more freedom and the ability to live longer, healthier, and a more normal life

“We must strive to reach a point where organ donation will become the norm when opportunities arise. To achieve this, we need to drive a fundamental cultural shift in our society; a culture that has left patients with little or no hope of life. In pursuit of that goal, we could start by ensuring that all those who died in circumstances where organ donation was a possibility are recognized and that their families are made aware of the possibility of giving the gift of life to others,”.

Mariama Balajo, the Nurse in charge of the dialysis unit assures the bank that the donated items will be put to good use.

Dr. Abubacarr Jagne, Deputy Chief Medical Director, thanked Trust Bank for the kind gesture rendered to the hospital.
