TRRC: Former Junta submits list of people killed by Jammeh, others

The Truth, Reconciliation and Reparation Commission will have its first Friday hearings tomorrow.

A former member of the July 22 1994 military coup has submitted a list of unspecified number of people killed by Yahya Jammeh and his collaborators in the immediate aftermath of the takeover.

The lead counsel of the Commission, Essa Faal, said the list contains people who the witness have known or believed to have been killed.

The witness is the seventh but the first protected witness whose hearing was done from behind a tinted glass at the Truth Commission that started probing the human rights violations of the former ruler Jammeh on January 7.

The witness who have made the first major revelations before the Commission has refused to discuss his personal predicaments, saying that could reveal his identity.

The witness cautioned the Commission to adequately look into the whereabouts of particular person whose identity was not revealed but mentioned in his written testimony, saying the person is nowhere to be seen.

“He is very emotional about this,” said the lead Counsel Faal. “And he wants the Commission to look into the issue.”

Meanwhile, the witness further said Gambians were the ones who made Jammeh “God” when they were the ones who made him who he was.
