Information from the Independent Electoral Commission has revealed that Fabakary Tombong Jatta is the leader and secretary general of the Alliance for Patriotic Reorientation and Construction party and not an interim leader as earlier stated by the party.
APRC went to congress in December and elected several party members into various positions of responsibility.
The party claimed, they have selected former dictator Yahya Jammeh as the Supreme Leader of the party and Tombong Jatta as an interim leader.
However, the chairman of IEC Alieu Njie has told the country’s leading show on television, Kerr Fatou, that Jammeh is not mentioned on the list on positions they have received from the party and Tombong Jatta is the leader and secretary general of the party.
The Kerr Fatou show comes on GRTS on Thursday. The APRC has ruled Gambia for 22 years after it was formed by Jammeh and his collaborators following the July 1994 coup.
The self-style ruler was the only leader of the party to whom the larger majority of the party still owe allegiance.
That may have informed why it is important for the party to still show that special respect for Jammeh by suggesting that his position is still here for him being kept by Jatta.
