The minister of Agriculture, Hon. Demba Sabally who is also a native of Foni said that the good Sons of Foni want ECOMIG to remain in the region.

The agriculture minister made these remarks in Foni Sibanor on Wednesday, December 7, 2022, in response to the five National Assembly Members in Foni who petitioned president Barrow’s Government to withdraw the ECOMIG contingent of Senegalese soldiers stationed in Foni;

“We the good Sons of Foni who are the majority of the voters want ECOMIG to remain in Foni because ECOMIG is not disturbing the government with anything. Have the ECOMIG soldiers ever stopped your vehicles? What did they disturb you with? Am telling you the conflict you are digging into will not go anywhere. We the good sons of Foni want ECOMIG to remain in Foni,” the Agriculture Minister said.

The Agriculture Minister says that the five Independent National Assembly Members more commonly referred to as ‘No To Alliance’ members cannot bring back former president Yahya Jammeh.

“‘No to Alliance’ National Assembly member, when you were campaigning, you said two things in Foni here which you yourselves know that you cannot do and you can never do it. You said when you win as National Assembly members you will remove the ECOMIG shoulders in Foni and you know you cannot do that. Is only president Barrow who can remove ECOMIG here. You also promised them that when you win you are going to bring back Former president Yaya Jammeh and you know that Barrow is the only one who can do that. you guys can’t bring back Yaya Jammeh and you can’t remove the ECOMIG soldiers in Foni only president Barrow can do that and if you don’t work with His Excellency President Barrow you will never have what you want, “he said.

He added that the ECOMIG soldiers are not in Foni alone but across the country, saying other areas are not complaining why will Foni complain

He said the No to Alliance MP should know that Gambian soldiers also travel for peacekeeping in other countries like the ECOMIG is doing in the Gambia.

The minister made these comments during a Meet the People’s tour meeting held in Foni Sibanor.
