There are sacred moments when a leader has to make judicious decisions or take decisive actions, with far-reaching implications on the lives of many. This may be preceded by hours, days, weeks or perhaps months of silent and lonely introspection, depending on the urgency, subject-matter and relevant circumstances. You pray for Allah’s Guidance, research, consult, reflect thoroughly, seek expert advice, weigh options, etc, all in the national interests. Ultimately, a decision has to be made, and you the leader must make that decision. The courage to depart from the settled views of your entourage or base to serve the over-riding sovereign goal, against subjective personal or partisan considerations, is the ultimate mark of true leadership.
Be ready to take consequences of your decisions and actions, making sure your conscience is pure.
Remember: there will always be those who will praise your decisions and actions, while some will criticize, condemn or vilify you. If you seek to please everyone in your decisions or actions, you will not be able to satisfy all and you will finally fail everyone. Leadership is about taking bold decisions in the public interest, even if members of that same public would condemn you for it. History is recording, and posterity’s harshest judgement shall not fail. GMC will share intricate details and our position on the matter with the media, following priority briefings on the Abuja trip with our national leadership FIRST. Jum’ah Mubarak!
