The Supreme Court of the Gambia has made a ruling on Friday granting the nomination of the replacement of Ya Kumba Jaiteh, Foday Gassama.
Gassama, a native of Brikama, has been nominated by President Adama Barrow after he revoked the nomination of Jaiteh.
Jaiteh is currently challenging the constitutionality of the decision and for the court to overturn it.
While hearing awaits on the constitutionality or otherwise of the President’s decision, the apex court said on Friday that Gassama’s swearing can continue.
Gassama is scheduled to be sworn in as lawmaker on March 18 when the National Assembly resumes session.
Many analysts interpret this ruling to mean the president revocation of Jaiteh’s nomination is constitutional.
