The police in South Africa have started investigations after 22 were found dead in a nightclub at a township.

According to BBC news agency, the bodies were found scattered on the floor and tables in Enyobeni Tavern in the coastal town of East London.

The incident is said to have happened in the early hours of today.

A provincial safety official told AFP news agency that a stampede had been ruled out as the cause of the deaths as there were ‘no visible wounds’ on the bodies.

Unathi Banqose also told AFP that investigators will take samples and test would be conducted to see if there was any poisoning of any sort.
