Sheriffo Bayor Sonko, a prominent supporter of the United Democratic Party (UDP), has accused Hon. Fatou Cham of making misleading comments.

In a leaked audio recording, Hon. Fatou Cham claimed that members of the opposition United Democratic Party (UDP) in the National Assembly had met to reject a motion. Cham said she was absent from the meeting due to illness and that no one had informed her of the outcome. However, Sheriffo Bayor Sonko denied that any such meeting took place.

“Sister Fatou Fatou Cham, your audio recording is completely misleading. You made a number of misleading statements, and I expected that an honorable person like you would not mislead the public. I appeal to you to drop this case, as you have said that you will not betray the UDP until you die. You claimed that the minority caucus had a meeting about the motion on Monday and that you were not in parliament that day. However, I have clear information that the minority caucus did not have such a meeting. ” he said.

Bayor Sonko also stated that he had clear knowledge that the bill was passed in the National Assembly on the same day that it was introduced.

“Before a bill can be taken to the General Assembly, it must first go through the Assembly Business Committee. Hon. Sulayman Saho is the representative of the minority caucus on this committee. He asked for more time so that the members could discuss the bill with their constituents, but the NPP members rejected this request. Hon. Saho then suggested that the bill be sent to the committee stage, but the NPP members again rejected this.” he said.

Yahya Menteng Sanyang and Fatou Cham, two members of the United Democratic Party (UDP) in the National Assembly, clashed after Sanyang accused Cham of voting against the party in their WhatsApp group. Sanyang, who is the MP for Latrikunda, is also said to be unhappy that Cham supported a motion by the Lands Regional Government and Religious Affairs Minister to create new Seyfo districts in the West Coast Region. This motion is said to be in line with the Re-demarcation of Constituencies Order, 2015.
