A tragic accident on the Senegambia highway claimed the life of Wuyeh Jallow, 35, on Thursday morning. The head-on collision between a Benz C-class and a Golf type 4 left both vehicles seriously damaged and one driver dead.
According to police spokesperson ASP Binta Njie Jatta, the accident occurred around 6:30 am between a Benz C-class driven by Wuyeh Jallow and a Volkswagen Golf driven by 39-year-old Manjuku Conteh. Conteh is reported to have been traveling against traffic, heading towards Senegambia from the Brusubi roundabout. Jallow, driving in the correct direction from Senegambia towards the roundabout, collided with Conteh’s vehicle.
“A Benz C class with registration number KM 5132 D driven by Wuyeh Jallow a 35-year-old male from Salaji And a Golf type 4 with registration number BJL 6848 W driven by 39-year-old Manjuku Conteh of Trankil. The Golf Vehicle was coming from the Brusubi roundabout (turn table) heading towards SeneGambia against the traffic while the C Class was coming from SeneGambia heading towards the Brusubi roundabout (turn table) and unfortunately knocked each other which caused serious damage to both vehicles. Victims were rushed to Ndemban hospital, where one of the victims (Wuyeh Jallow) was pronounced dead,” police PRO told Kerr Fatou.
Both drivers were rushed to Ndemban Hospital, but Jallow succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. Conteh’s condition is unknown at this time.
The cause of the accident is under investigation, and police urge drivers to exercise caution and follow traffic regulations on the Senegambia highway and all roads in the Gambia.
