Senegalese National Prosecuted for Alleged Computer-Related Fraud in Basse

The Gambia Police Force announced on August 8, 2024, that they have successfully prosecuted Alhagie Babucarr Gaye, a 26-year-old Senegalese national, on charges of computer-related extortion, fraud, and forgery.

According to the press release, Gaye’s case was presented before Magistrate Peter Che at the Basse Magistrate Court on June 25, 2024, where he pleaded guilty to all charges.

“On August 7, 2024, Gaye was sentenced to five years of imprisonment with hard labor. Additionally, he was ordered to pay a compensation of D50,000.00; failure to pay will result in an additional two years of imprisonment. The sentences are to run consecutively,” the release reads. 

The Gambia Police Force reaffirmed its commitment to combating all forms of crime, with a particular focus on scamming and related offenses.
