Hon. Seedy Njie, Deputy Spokesperson of the National People’s Party (NPP), has labeled the protests against state ministers at the United Nations General Assembly as uncivilized.

Speaking on Kerr Fatou’s weekly program, The Brunch, Njie addressed questions regarding President Barrow’s lawsuit against the Voice Newspaper.

“There’s no unlimited freedom of expression, unlimited rights, you cannot find them anywhere in the world. For example, in America you cannot insult their president but here because of ignorance or the way our societies are they can just follow an individual and rain insults at you. Just look at what happened in America with the Minister of Health and the Minister of information. You will never see that in the west, no civilized citizen in the west will do that to their (authorities).

“They protested, and they were insulting Dr. Samateh, that’s not protest, that’s not civilized. That is ignorance. The executive member of the UDP who is the chairman of the Brikama Area Council stated in the newspaper that there will be a protest, and it happened and when it happened it was very ugly. These kinds of protests have never happened in the United States. About seven of them or so came out insulting the mother of the minister of health and insulting his father,” Njie explained to Kerr Fatou.

Hon. Seedy Njie serves as the Deputy Spokesperson of the ruling National People’s Party (NPP) and is also the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly in The Gambia.
