Amadou Scattred Janneh, Former Administrative Secretary for Media, and Communications of the United Democratic Party (UDP), in a leaked audio message has described Yankuba Darboe, the UDP candidate for Brikama Area Council chairman, as an incompetent person as he vouches for the character of the National People’s Party (NPP) candidate, Seedy Ceesay.
In the leaked audio, Dr. Janneh could be heard telling someone he calls Diamond that Yankuba was his deputy in the UDP, and he (Yankuba) didn’t measure up then. That he can attest to Yankuba’s incompetence. He went on to profusely praise the NPP candidate for the work they did together.
“Diamond, I know we are all prominent members of the UDP, and it is not like we are cross carpeting to NPP or speaking at a rally for him, but we have to do our utmost to make sure Seedy wins. You know Yanks was my deputy in the UDP executive, and you know he has not put in any effort at that time. And I know he is not competent. I worked with Seedy, and I know he is steadfast and hardworking. We slept on the streets together, got arrested together at the border distributing t-shirts. We were at the United Nations in Geneva together, at the European Union in Brussels, at demonstrations in Dakar. We have been together for a long time, and although we are not in the same political party, he always tells me what he is up to because of the trust we’ve developed over the years and that remains today. And that is somebody you will be there for when they are going through anything. That been the case, we are going to put party interests on the side and if you all cannot support him openly, we should strive to do whatever we can privately. Canvass for him in Kombo South, Kombo North to Foni, wherever we have supporters. I have started contacting people, telling them, you all know I am UDP, but the NPP candidate will bring change to our area, so let’s try to get him to win. That is what I have been telling people, and that is the truth.”
Amadou Scattred Janneh was among the United Democratic Party (UDP) members who showed interest in contesting under the party’s ticket for the upcoming Brikama Area Council Chairmanship election. He withdrew his candidacy before the party met to choose their candidate.
