Musa Trawally a man who walked from Sareh Pirasu village in the Upper River Region (URR) to the State House to congratulate President-elect Adama Barrow on his victory did it in fulfillment of a pre-election pledge he made.
“I pledged that if President Adama Barrow won the election on December 4 presidential election, I will walk from my village Sareh Pirasu to the State House to congratulate him for winning election. I have nothing to do to celebrate his victory but to walk from Basse to the State House. That’s the only thing I can do to show him (President Barrow) my happiness and love,” he said upon arrival in Banjul.
Trawally disclosed that the love he has for the president-elect motivated his journey.
“The main reason I make this pledge is the love I have for him. That’s why I embarked on this journey. When I pledged that I will walk from Basse to the statehouse. A lot of people promised to give me money so that I can pay the fare and come. But I told them no, I will use my feet to reach there to show my love to him. The reason I love President Barrow is because of the work he has done in the past five years. I know in the coming five years the work he will do will pass what he has done in the previous five years,” Musa said.
Speaking shortly after receiving Musa, President-elect Adama Barrow said the journey by Musa would forever remain in the history of The Gambia.
“One cannot have anything in this world without love, because love can put you in anything. But if you live long enough in this world almost every day, you will see or hear new things. So what Musa did is a new thing in this country. This will forever remain in Musa’s history. Even his great-grandchildren will hear that their great grandfather once walked from Basse to Banjul. It will forever remain in the history of the Gambia,” President Barrow said.
Musa Trawally is said to have started his journey on 12th December in Sareh Pirasu village in the Upper River Region (URR) and arrived at the State House in Banjul on 20th December.
