President’s State of Nation Address Slated For 15th September

The 2022 State of Nation Address (SoNA) by President Adama Barrow would be held on 15th September at the Parliament in Banjul.

“His Excellency, the President of the Republic will also in accordance with Section 77 (1) of the 1997 Constitution, and Order 24 (1) of the Standing Orders of the National Assembly perform the State of Nation Address (SoNA) on Thursday 15th September, 2022,” Parliament said in a dispatch dated 31st August 2022.

The SoNA would be in the Third Ordinary Session of the National Assembly in the 2022 Legislative Year, convening from 12th –30th September 2022.

Daily sittings of the session would commence at 10:00am andentrance to the State of Nation Address (SoNA) by the President shall be strictly by invitation, the dispatch added.

It reminded the public to comply with the standard dress code, which is traditional or suit, and to observe the silence rule during proceedings of the Session.

Section 77 (1) of the 1997 Constitution requires the President to  attend a sitting of the National Assembly and address a session on the condition of the State, the policies of the Government and the administration of the State, at least once in a year.

This would be the 6thState of Nation Address (SoNA) by President Adama Barrow since his ascension to power in 2017, after defeating then President Yahya A.J.J Jammeh in the 1st December 2016 Presidential election.
