Henry Gomez, the Deputy Youth Adviser of President Adama Barrow has blamed Gambians for the price hikes of essential commodities and exonerated his boss.
“They want to use the price hike to do politics. Let’s make fool of one another. The problem is Global right now. Right now, things are expensive. Today, if you go to Germany, each person is allowed to buy one bottle per day, and that is the olive oil. The World is difficult. It takes the ships that bring goods to the Gambia three weeks to arrive. But today it takes them three to four months to arrive in The Gambia. Then you should know the World has changed.
“Adama Barrow is not the problem. The problem is we the Gambians. We are very wicked to ourselves. Let’s feel for one another. For example, if for you go to Banjul, a bag of rice is D1, 000; KM D1, 300; Bakau D1, 400; Brikama D1 600; Tanji D1, 700, Mansankonko D1, 800; Bansang D2, 000; Basse D2, 500. What’s wrong with us Gambians? Why are prices always going high? Let’s clean our hearts. Even if we don’t love one another, let’s respect one another as Gambians,” he said on Monday evening.
Henry Gomez made the remarks in Tanji at a rally during the ongoing campaign of the National People’s Party (NPP) candidate for Kombo South constituency Momodou Bojang.
