President Barrow Warns Police Officers Against Accepting Bribes in Traffic

President Adama Barrow, while addressing citizens during his ongoing Meet the Peopletour in the Upper River Region, issued a stern warning to police officers against accepting bribes in traffic-related matters. He emphasized that their duty is to enforce the law, not to collect money from citizens, and called on vehicle owners to ensure their documents are complete.

“We must secure the country, especially since this region is near the borders. If we don’t have security at the borders, it will be problematic. Our security forces are doing a great job, but their role does not include accepting money from the public. I am warning all security personnel: when you’re securing the public, follow the law. Anyone caught taking bribes will be fired without hesitation,” President Barrow said.

He also expressed his concern about the impact of bribery on the country’s progress, stressing that such actions damage the nation’s reputation.

“Anyone involved in bribery is hindering the progress of our country. We will not tolerate such behavior, and I will not work with anyone who undermines the nation’s image. We must move forward, and I rely on you, the people, to help me achieve this. This meeting would not have been possible without your support; you are the backbone of our nation, but we must adhere to the laws that govern it,” he added.

In his closing remarks, President Barrow reiterated his message to police officers, warning that anyone caught collecting bribes, even from individuals with complete documentation, will face immediate dismissal.

“Vehicle owners should have all their documents in order, but any police officer who collects money from those with proper documents will be fired,” he concluded.
