The People’s Progressive Party (PPP) has officially introduced Salieu Jallow, known as MSJ, as its candidate for the upcoming by-election in the Half-Die ward of Banjul South, slated for April 24, 2025. The announcement, made in a statement released on March 19, marks a significant moment for the party as it seeks to secure a strong representative for the community.

“Salieu Jallow, commonly known as MSJ, is the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) official candidate in the upcoming by-election for the Half-Die ward in Banjul. On Wednesday, March 19, 2025, a distinguished delegation from our Party held an important meeting to officially welcome Mr. Salieu Jallow, affectionately known as MSJ, as our chosen candidate for the upcoming by-election in the Banjul South Half Die Ward, scheduled for April 24, 2025,” PPP said. The PPP expressed gratitude to the Banjul regional committee and other local stakeholders for their vital support in securing Jallow’s candidacy. The party emphasized the widespread backing Jallow has received from community members, recognizing his dedication and exceptional leadership qualities.

Ousman Madikay Faal, the leader of the PPP, underscored Jallow’s broad appeal. “Mr. Jallow is not merely our candidate; he is truly the candidate of the People. This is reflected in the overwhelming support he has garnered across various social media platforms, where his vision and dedication to improving the lives of the residents of Banjul South have resonated with many. His candidacy represents a hopeful shift towards effective representation and positive change in Half-Die.” Faal said.

Jallow, a passionate youth advocate, has long been involved in local activism, focusing particularly on youth empowerment in Banjul South. The PPP highlighted his deep engagement with the community, asserting that, if elected, he would prioritize the interests of his constituents—especially young people.

“His extensive engagement within the community demonstrates that, if elected, he will prioritize the interests and needs of his constituents, particularly focusing on empowering young people. The PPP has established a dynamic Progressive Youth Wing, ensuring that the voices of young individuals are heard and represented in the party’s decision-making processes.” the statement reads.
The party also underscored its commitment to creating a more inclusive and consultative political environment. “The party’s policies are designed to be people-centered, closely aligning with the everyday realities and struggles faced by Gambian citizens. Currently, the Half-Die ward is experiencing significant issues. Existing policies often lack a consultative approach and take a top-down stance, leading to decisions that negatively impact the very people they aim to serve,” the statement continues.

The PPP called for unity in supporting Jallow’s candidacy, urging the community to rally behind the candidate to bring about the change the region so desperately needs.
