The Public Relation officer of the Gambia Police Force, Cadet ASP Binta Njie Jatta, has confirmed the assault of a woman in Brikama Gidda allegedly by Hon. Yunusa Bah.
“Alleged Assault of a woman by a sitting MP. Reference to the case of Prohibition conduct reported yesterday between the Family of a sitting MP, Yunusa N. Bah, and another family. That a woman, Jagana Sumareh, 23yrs of Brikama Gidda alleged that during the incident, she was physically assaulted by the MP who threw a mud brick on her which landed on her back but she didn’t sustain any injury,” the police said.
The police added; “She was escorted to Brikama health center where she was treated and discharged and no abnormalities were found on her. The MP in his statement indicated that during the incident, it was Jagana Sumareh who scolded his shirt tightly and he was rescued by one Penda Bah who eventually managed to free him from the hands of the lady. He indicated that he never assaulted the lady. Investigations into the matter are continuing as some of the witnesses are still unreachable. More details will be provided in due course,” the police explains.
Hon. Yunusa Bah was on Monday accused of assaulting a woman in Brikama Gidda. He denied the allegations in a WhatsApp audio.
