Police Arrests Man For Allegedly Killing Bakau Taxi Driver

The Gambia Police Force have arrested and have in custody a man in suspicion of killing the missing Taxi Driver from Bakau.

In an interview with Kerr Fatou, the Police Public Relations Officer for Gambia Police Force, Cadet ASP Binta Njie-Jatta, confirmed that a suspect is in police custody, and helping them in their investigations into the killing of the Bakau man.

“The guy is suspected to be the one that killed the missing Bakau Man. So, he is in police custody helping us with our investigation,” 

When asked why the youth in Bakau were protesting, prompting the deployment of the Police Intervention Unit (PIU) and the use of tear gas on the protestors, she responded that the youth were demanding for the police to release the suspect from custody to enable them to subject him to summary justice.

“The youths of Bakau said we should release the man so that they can kill him just the way he killed their resident,” she told Kerr Fatou.The Police PRO said the information she has received is that the man is originally from Banjul but resides in Brusubi now.

On November 28, 2022, reports emerged that a family in Bakau is searching for a missing loved one, a taxi driver, who left home on the 25th of November with his taxi and never returned.

The body of the taxi driver was found in the Salaji Forest by the Police
