Executive Director, National Youth Service Scheme (NYSS), Emmanuel D. Mendy said their 2019 and 2020 financial reports are not audited due to the poor health of its Finance Director involved in an accident with five other staff.
“The Finance Director was in hospital for sometimes. We advertised the position so that we can have a recruitment to get our finance reports in order,” he added.
He said NYSS did the advertisement and everything, but the interview could not go ahead because the board chairman was not available.
“What I understood is that the chairman was out of the country. I have tried him on several occasions, but I couldn’t reach him,” he said.
Mendy said the chairman who was there in 2020 fell sick for more than a year and went to the United States for treatment.
“He kept coming and going and he was eventually changed by the Ministry to another chairman who is not currently in the country,” he explained.
The NYSS ED continued that he had taken the matter to the Ministry of Youth and Sports where he was advised to wait for the chairman’s return in order to complete the recruitment process and the audit exercise.
Then the chairman of the committee, Honourable Alhagie S. Darboe said the committee would on 27th July 2022 called on the the Minister of Youth and Sports and other stakeholders to discuss the issue.
