Abdoulie Ebrima Jammeh, the Party Leader and Standard Bearer of the National Unity Party (NUP), sent a message to President Adama Barrow via WhatsApp audio, condemning his recent remarks against the Party Leader of the United Democratic Party (UDP), Lawyer Ousainou Darboe.

In his message, Mr. Jammeh expressed his party’s concerns regarding recent political developments within the country, particularly President Barrow’s statements made at a political rally in Brikama.

“We have heard the President of the Republic, Mr Adama Barrow, make a statement at a political rally in Brikama, and that statement we condemn in its entirety. We believe a person of his stature and station in life should not have uttered such statements in a public gathering of that nature. His primary role is to protect the lives and properties of the citizens of this country,” he addressed.

He mentioned that he believed it was likely a slip of the tongue and expressed hope that the President would retract the statement. He emphasized the importance of living in a peaceful environment and coexisting harmoniously without any divisions.

“It’s his primary role to ensure that people live a decent and longer life, but for him to be announcing the departure from this life of another political opponent and confirming that in the form of a contract that he said he had, although he has not specified who he had this contract with, I think that’s something that should worry everybody,” he said.

He added that What they believe to be hate simply signifies a failure of human imagination. And No one can look at a human being and hate a human being if their imagination is not failing them.

“So we kindly ask that, Mr. President, you look at this, review the statement, see how best we can amend it, you know, to give assurance to the people of this country to know that it probably was just triggered by political impulse, but there was certainly no reason that guided the statement, and therefore we’re calling on you, Mr. President, to ensure that you make up to your political opponents and give them a lot of assurance going forward,” he urged.

Mr. Jammeh said that as a party, their political philosophy is not to focus on individuals and their personal statements but to look at the issues that really affect the lives and the livelihoods of the citizens of this country.

“We believe that the challenges are myriad and that there is not even enough time for us to discuss all the problems that beset this county. And our focus is mostly on the issues, and we discuss them in order of priority as they affect the lives of the people of this country, and Today is a slight variation from that approach because we want to address something that is very personal,” he mentioned.

According to Jammeh, never before have they commented directly on a statement made by any political party leader or political party activist, but today what’s going on is a matter of concern for all of them.
